Alex Bilton

Director, Architect

Alex is a Chartered Architect (ARB) and member of the RIBA.

Before founding ABHR_A in 2015, Alex worked for 10 years at Zaha Hadid Architects, where he contributed to award-winning projects including the Stirling Prize-shortlisted London Aquatics Centre and the Oxford Middle East Centre. His expertise spans high-profile designs, sustainability, and adaptive reuse.

A passionate problem solver, Alex combines a approachable demeanour with professionalism, and encourages collaboration with clients and teams. As a committee member of the RIBA West London Group, he actively shapes the architectural profession, and is an undergraduate design tutor at the University of Greenwich and a RIBA Architecture Ambassador, inspiring future architects in schools.

Alex regularly appears as an expert at Grand Designs Live and the Home Building & Renovations expos, sharing his knowledge and insights with the public. His design philosophy emphasizes fabric-first sustainable approaches and conservation principles. Currently advancing his specialisation as a conservation architect though the RBA Conservation course, he is committed to creating beautiful, environmentally responsible spaces. Under his leadership, ABHR_A has is client-focused design, blending innovation with respect for context and heritage.

Helen Reid

Director, Architect

Helen is a Chartered Architect (ARB) and member of the RIBA and a Fellow of the RSA.

Helen has a broad base of experience in team leadership, sustainability, and community-driven design. She is known for her ability to guide teams through complex projects while delivering socially inclusive, environmentally responsible solutions.

Her expertise spans high-volume housing delivery, buildability, and achieving net-zero solutions at scale. A pragmatic leader, Helen excels at resourcing and managing the collective experience of her team, ensuring clarity and precision in all stages of design and delivery. Key projects include overseeing the delivery of Windmill Place, awarded the 2021 Housing Project of the Year by the Building Awards.

Helen also works with Pitman Tozer Architects as an associate, where she led Gascoigne East Phase 3a for Be First, delivering 226 new homes, including LB Barking and Dagenham’s first Net Zero Operational development. Her design approach emphasizes community engagement and creating spaces that encourage interaction and inclusion.

Helen is a member of the Architecture Club and has presented and participated as a panellist on housing standards at the London Society, contributing to important industry conversations. An excellent communicator, Helen connects with both professional and lay audiences, bringing a responsive and solution-focused approach to all her projects.

Risha Patel

Architect

Risha is a Chartered Architect (ARB). She studied at the University of Bath and University of Brighton.

Risha brings a detail-oriented and self-motivated approach to every project and thrives in tackling design challenges and delivering creative, practical solutions.

Before joining ABHR_A, Risha gained valuable experience at GAA Design and RJHA, working on residential and mixed-use schemes. She has a strong interest in sustainable, community-driven design and approaches each project with a focus on functionality, user experience, and environmental impact.

Risha’s commitment to improving urban environments extends beyond architecture, as she has been involved in the UN Safer Cities for Women programme at the GLA, advocating for safer, more inclusive spaces in cities.

Thulasie Manoharan

Architectural Designer

Thulasie joined the team in 2022 after completing her degree at the University of Greenwich. She is an RIBA Student member.

Thulasie has a keen interest in providing creative, engaging design solutions and brings a process-driven, detail-oriented approach to every project. She works across all RIBA stages, supporting project architects in the production and delivery of design information, contributing to the successful realisation of designs.

Thulasie contributes to the success of residential and educational projects, including the refurbishment and extension of classrooms with SEN facilities at Stanmore College and the creation of a Green Skills Hub, which will foster sustainable practices. She is passionate about the integration of design and social responsibility and enjoys working on projects that have a positive impact on communities.

Outside of architecture, Thulasie is a self-published writer, contributing contemporary commentary on female-centred social issues in art and design, and is keen to continue exploring interdisciplinary connections between architecture and social change.
