The existing structure was an end-of-mews house, constrained by a lack of daylight and enclosed spaces, surrounded on all sides by seven party walls.
The design replaces this with a new-build, open-plan, column-free space organised around a green wall-lined courtyard that brings natural light deep into the home. The brick façade presents a fluid, curtain-like pattern to the mews, allowing the glazing behind to gradually reveal views to the street while diffusing natural light into the private interior spaces. The design language carries through into the interior, uniting the space with sculptural elements that echo the façade’s aesthetic.
This project was completed by Alex when he was Project Associate at Zaha Hadid Architects.
