Burneside Green is a new development of 40 homes in Burneside, a Cumbrian village in the River Kent valley near Kendal, forming part of a wider regeneration led by landowners James Cropper plc, Ellergreen Estate and The Anglers Inn Trust, with igloo managing delivery. The brief called for a housing typology to attract a younger generation to the village, with living spaces arranged to make the most of views across the Lakeland fells and homes flexible enough for home working or a growing family.

Terraces and standalone houses are grouped around a shared green and courtyard, their varied roof pitches, gables and dormers breaking the massing into a village-like streetscape. The material palette draws on the local vernacular — blue-grey slate hanging tiles at the upper storeys and gables, paired with warm buff brick below - reworked in a contemporary, fabric-first register that supports the scheme's zero-carbon ambitions.

Natural stone paving runs through the courtyard, softened by brick-edged planters of grasses and ferns opening onto the communal green, with timber front doors and generous glazing giving each home its own identity. The result is a development rooted in Burneside's history and materials, offering a distinctly contemporary way of living for a new generation of villagers.
